If
You Think Getting Your Book Published Is Difficult, Try Getting It Published By A Reputable
Publisher….
Now You Can Get Easily Published
Without Falling for Scams, Hooks, Lines, and Sinkers
Hey
Freelancer,
I’ve heard the claims.
You probably have too. I hear that getting your articles and books published today is easier than ever
before.
I disagree.
Kinda.
Yeah. It’s easy to get
your book in print. New technology has created publishing opportunities galore.
Problem is, it’s also
created a new breed of publishing that may (or may not) make it easier than ever to make a living (or have a
profitable hobby) as a writer.
Here’s what I’m talking about:
I recently shared lunch
with a local freelancer who needed help. She needed it bad.
“I don’t know what to
do,” she said, “I like my publisher, but I want to branch out and work on other projects. I can’t do that
because they have first option on everything I write.”
“First option,” I
repeated, “I don’t know what you mean.”
“It means,” she sighed,
“that no matter what I write, they’ll publish it. Even if they don’t know how to market it.
Guess I’m stuck with
them forever.”
Although I’m not a
lawyer, nor do I claim to have any extraordinary knowledge of the law, I perused her contract and voila, she was
right. Not only did that particular publishing house already “own” anything she may write, it planned on owning
it for a long time, going so far as to describe how it intended on paying her heirs after she
died.
Wow. What a bummer of a
contract, eh?
That’s the day I sat
down and started writing Filbert's Fast Guide to Getting Published Without Falling For Scams, Hooks, Lines,
and Sinkers. Contracts are just one of the tangled lines that
can tangle your writing career.
Let me tell you about
the author I spoke with who signed on with a publisher not realizing that the publisher had such horrid
bookstore terms that not one book seller in the nation would order her book. Forget stocking it so browsers
could thumb through it before buying.
That publisher proudly
proclaims that “bookstores are a terrible place to sell books.” Yeah. Right.
Actually, I’ve found
that a helpful bookstore clerk’ll sell a ton of books if I can actually get that book into the store. That being
said, I, for one, would hate to cut off that potential sales outlet.
I could go on and
on.

Popping Onto The Writing Scene Daily, It's Surprisingly Easy To Fall For The Latest Scam, Hook, Line, And/Or
Career Sinker.
But that’s not all. In
fact, here’s a taste of what you’ll discover:
·
Find out the difference between a
major publishing house, a medium publishing house, a subsidiary press, and POD publishers… and how these
differences can affect not only your reputation, but your bottom line
·
Discover why a high five-figure
advance may not add up to what you expect… all the info’s on page 21.
·
How do you decipher all the numbers
(and bar codes) on the back of the book? Find out on page 27.
·
Need to write a press release
announcing your book? You can find a sample release on page 30.
Starting on page 37,
you’ll find a complete list of "Ten Publishing Red Flags" to help you avoid entering into an unfair
publishing/writer relationship.
I sure I wish I’d had
this information available when I first started shopping for a publisher. Dang. I’ve fallen for more scams than
I can count.
-
Like the time I almost didn't
get paid for an article. Had to fight tooth and nail just to pry 25 bucks out of their skinny little
fingers... I shoulda seen the warning signs.
-
How 'bout the time I signed a contract that stated that the publisher
could "change it at any time." Ack!
-
Once I entered a writing contest. I even won. Why would that be bad? It
sure was. What a scam.
-
And the list goes on and on...
And that’s exactly why
I wrote this book. To spare you the grief, helplessness, and anger of making newbie, and sometimes not so
newbie, mistakes.
